Matrah Infrastructure Integration and Redevelopment (MIIR)
At the recent ICE Learned Event at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque Lecture Hall in Muscat, we were fortunate that Haya Water, the project owners of MIIR, kindly loaned us 3 key players from their multi-disciplinary design team – Sering International LLC
Opening the event was Francesca Arici, Lead Architect and Urban Planner, who outlined the concept and vision of the MIIR Preliminary Integrated Master Plan, namely:
- Livability & Omanisation
- Conservation & identity
- Diversity & inclusiveness
- Innovation & sustainability
This was followed by Eng. Daniele Arno, with a comprehensive presentation on the “Wet Utilities” and “Flood Protection”, which included details of “first flush culvert”, an innovative design approach to reducing pollution in stormwater systems.
And then Eng. Fausto Melli concluded MIIR presentations with speech about “Roads & Dry Utilities”, which demonstrated the benefits of an integrated design approach.
A lively Q&A sessions rounded off the most interesting evening, especially when the hot topics of financing and implementation programme were broached!
