Lovech (Bulgaria)
Lovech is a town in north-central Bulgaria with a population of about 50,000 and total area around 640 ha. The measures will assist Bulgaria in achieving compliance with the Environmental Acquis, in particular in relation to the Drinking Water Directives and the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directives.
The objectives of the investment measures in the water supply sector are:
- to provide the population with drinking water in adequate quantity and quality
- to limit water losses along the water supply network
- to increase the proportion of the population which is connected to the water supply network by rehabilitation and remediation of existing water supply facilities and construction of new water supply facilities
The objectives of the investment measures in the wastewater sector are:
- to decrease the direct discharge of untreated wastewater to surface water by construction of WWTP
- to optimize the work of WWTP’s by reduction of leakages in the sewer networks and other improvements
- to increase the population served by sewer networks;
- to increase the proportion of the population whose wastewater discharge receives full treatment

The design includes:
- Replacing the sewerage network (approximately 900 m long)
- New sewerage network(approximately 1080 m long), including the hydraulic modelling
- Rehabilitation / upgrading of the existing water supply and sewerage systems (total length of about 16,300 m)
