Mirbat in Dhofar Governorate is approx. 70 km from Salalah.  There is an existing fishery harbor at Mirbat. The harbor was constructed during 1986.

Mirbat is a prominent fishermen location in this Governorate. The present situation is that there are 827 fishermen and they operate 591 traditional skiff boats and 55 no. Dhows. The harbor is always live and a lot of tourists visit the place.

The overall objectives of this project are to achieve the following:

• Increase the value-added component of the catch through expansion and quality improvement of handling, processing and marketing activities for both the domestic and international markets;
• Creating a modern Omani fishery fleet capable of exploiting, on a sustainable basis, offshore fish resources beyond the range of the traditional fleet;
• Maintaining viable fishery communities through improvements to local landing facilities and to community living standards;
• Providing the institutions with capabilities to manage and develop the fishery sector effectively;
• Ensuring that the private sector (both individual and corporative) is able to participate fully in the expansion of the fishery industry.

The Port is expected to extend facilities for: Developed Fishery Activities; Ship lift and repair facility; ROP & Coast Guard requirements; Tourism (including marina) and yacht; Fast passenger cum vehicle ferry; Commercial.

Scope of Work:

• Concept Master Plan and Feasibility Studies
• Hydrodynamic studies, surveys and investigations
• Suggesting remedial measures and assess alternatives to reduce the wave disturbance around the harbour
• Incorporate the additional requirements in tourism and ferry service and identify the recommended solution
• Design of the finalized alternative for construction and its related works
• Environmental Studies
• Prepare Construction Tender Documents for the marine structures
• Assist the Client during the Tender period, analyse and evaluate Tenders
• Construction supervision and assistance during maintenance period.
