Abstract

Duqm Fishery Port is a strategic project located in the Al Wusta Governorate, developed on behalf of the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD), as part of Oman’s initiative to strengthen its fishing industry in the Indian Ocean. The port is designed to support the continuous growth of fishing activities and related industries.
Sering was responsible for the design review and construction supervision of the port’s maritime works, as well as the design of the port infrastructure. The team ensured construction quality and material compliance, meeting planned schedules and budgets through the application of targeted value engineering measures.
The port’s strategic location—close to major international shipping routes and the African and Asian markets—its area of over 750 hectares, and its capacity to accommodate large vessels (with depths of up to 10 meters) make it not only a key fishing facility but also a potential multifunctional hub.
The two breakwaters measure over 2,100 meters to the east and approximately 1,100 meters to the west, both protected by Core-Loc™ concrete armor units. The basin area covers approximately 1.4 million square meters, and the quay walls extend for 1,300 meters: 600 meters with a depth of 10 meters, plus an additional 530 meters equipped with six pontoons, a ramp, and a boat lifting area. Another 750 meters of quay remain to be equipped, alongside over 700 meters of beach area dedicated to small fishing boats.
The project also included the construction of a 14.6 km road connecting the port to the national road network, and a 3.3 km access road carved through rock with major slope stabilization works. This road allows access to the port, located more than 80 meters below the industrial plateau, which is also served by approximately 2 km of internal roads.
