Abstract
The MIIR (Mutrah Infrastructure Integration and Redevelopment) project is a challenging and visionary initiative aimed at the recovery and enhancement of the historic center of Mutrah, a symbol of Omani history and identity. With the goal of transforming Mutrah into a dynamic cultural and social hub, the project seeks to preserve historical heritage, improve residents’ quality of life, and establish the city as a premier tourist destination.
The integrated plan encompasses interventions in urban planning, architecture, road networks, parking facilities, drainage, water management, electrical and lighting systems, sewage systems, and public spaces. Through targeted measures, the project envisions the redevelopment of roads, the preservation of cultural heritage, the creation of welcoming public spaces, and the introduction of smart technologies for a more modern and sustainable city.
Key themes include sustainable mobility, the improvement of public services, tourism promotion, environmental management, and cultural regeneration. All decisions have been made in collaboration with the community and local authorities, ensuring an inclusive and participatory approach.
The MIIR project is not merely a redevelopment plan but a long-term vision to restore Mutrah to its former glory, transforming it into a place where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously.
