Abstract
The “Oloolotikosh-Kitengela-Kajiado Water and Sewerage” project aims to address the growing demand for water and sanitation infrastructure in the urban centers and surrounding areas of Kitengela, Kajiado, and Oloolotikosh, located in Kajiado County, Kenya. This intervention integrates a multidisciplinary approach that combines advanced hydraulic engineering, socio-economic assessments, and environmental impact studies.
The design is based on a detailed analysis of existing water resources, including in-depth hydrological studies that assessed the precipitation cycle and seasonal water availability. The project involves the construction of a strategically positioned dam to capture runoff water, ensuring reserves for domestic, agricultural, and industrial supply. The site selection for the dam was determined through geotechnical, environmental, and economic sustainability analyses.
In addition to the dam, the project includes the construction of a drinking water treatment plant, designed to meet strict quality standards, and a water distribution network to reach a wide customer base. In parallel, a sewage system is being developed with advanced treatment processes for the sustainable reuse of wastewater, contributing to improved public hygiene and promoting more resilient agricultural practices.
The commitment of the design firm is reflected in the integration of innovative methods and advanced technologies, community involvement, and environmental sensitivity. Public consultation has allowed the gathering of valuable data on local needs, facilitating the definition of technical solutions that balance economic development goals with respect for natural resources and social dynamics.
This project not only aims to address the immediate challenges related to water and waste management but also seeks to act as a catalyst for sustainable economic and social growth, significantly contributing to food security and the fight against poverty in the region.
