The restoration project of the Caltagirone-Gela railway line, specifically the Caltagirone-Niscemi section, focuses on the seismic retrofitting and structural enhancement of five masonry arch viaducts. The executive design was developed through detailed surveys, geotechnical investigations, and material analyses, which were essential for calibrating the interventions.

The foundations were reinforced with concrete piles sized according to structural requirements, while the piers were consolidated with grout injections and reinforced concrete jackets. The arches, cleared of infill material, were integrated with new reinforced concrete structures to improve load distribution.

A new drainage system ensures effective management of rainwater, and the works were planned in phases to optimize timelines and ensure safety. The project enhances the functionality and safety of the viaducts while respecting the original features of the structures and their environmental context.
