Abstract

The Wadi Al Jifnain flood protection project, located in Seeb, Muscat Governorate, aims to mitigate flood risks and safeguard residential, agricultural, and commercial areas, enhancing the region’s resilience to extreme weather events. SERING was responsible for the design and construction supervision of this key infrastructure, completed between 2021 and 2024.
At the core of the project is the Wadi Al Jifnain Dam, a 6.4 km long and 22-meter-high earth and rockfill structure, featuring a 20-meter-deep concrete cut-off wall and a storage capacity of 13 million cubic meters. The works also include two bottom outlets, two spillway channels, and a 60,000 square meter impermeable diaphragm, ensuring long-term hydraulic stability and durability. The total value of the project amounts to 45.6 million Omani Rials, approximately 109 million euros.
Successfully completed, the dam significantly enhances public safety and protects vital infrastructure, contributing to sustainable water resource management and improved climate resilience in the area.
